The goal of the layered structure of MI Impact is to offload as much work and responsibility from the Mentors as is practical. This approach allows Mentors to focus solely on their primary mission: working directly with the youth, building meaningful relationships, fostering trust, and facilitating the MI Impact Gatherings. By distributing responsibilities across various roles, we ensure that each aspect of the program is managed effectively and efficiently. This collaborative structure supports the Mentors and enhances the overall experience for the youth, creating a well-rounded and nurturing environment for their spiritual growth and development. Parish Priest / Parish Education Commission
Role: The Parish Priest is the final authority for the MI Impact Youth Ministry. He provides spiritual guidance, oversight, and support to ensure that the program aligns with the mission and values of the parish.
Delegation: The Parish Priest delegates some of his oversite to the Parish Education Commission. MI Impact falls under the purview of the Parish Education Commission charter.
Interaction: The Parish Priest works closely with the Stewards to oversee the program and address any significant issues or decisions. He may also participate in meetings with parents and youth when necessary and is available to Mentors for questions and discussion of Church teachings.
Stewards
Role: The Stewards facilitate the MI Impact program and act as the interface between the youth ministry and the parish administration. They are responsible for the overall coordination and management of the program. In addition, Stewards promote the program, recruit volunteers, and promulgate policies.
Interaction: The Stewards work with the Parish Priest to ensure the program's alignment with parish goals and other Parish commissions to obtain needed resources. They also collaborate with Mentors, Hosts, and the Events and Pursuits Committee to ensure smooth operation and effective communication.
Mentors
Role: Mentors work directly with the youth, providing guidance, support, and encouragement. They lead regular gatherings, facilitate discussions using the Y-Disciple online platform, and help the youth grow in their faith. Lastly, Mentors are encouraged to serve as chaperones for MI Impact extraordinary events.
Interaction: Mentors check in with the Stewards and keep them informed about the progress and needs of the youth. They collaborate with Hosts to ensure that gatherings are well-organized and meaningful. Finally, they provide insight to the Pursuits and Ventures committee about the youth's interests.
Hosts
Role: Hosts provide a location, dinner, and tools for regular gatherings. They create a welcoming and comfortable environment for the youth to meet and engage in activities. Hosts are encouraged to serve as chaperones for MI Impact special events.
Interaction: Hosts work closely with Mentors to coordinate the logistics of the gatherings. They also communicate with the Stewards to ensure that any needs or concerns are addressed.
Events and Pursuits Committee
Role: The Events and Pursuits Committee is responsible for brainstorming and organizing unique events and service projects outside of regular gatherings. They aim to create fun and enriching experiences for the youth.
Interaction: The Committee collaborates with the Stewards to plan and execute events. They also work with Mentors to ensure that the events align with the goals of the youth ministry and provide meaningful opportunities for growth and fellowship.
How the Roles Interact
Parish Priest and Stewards: The Parish Priest provides oversight and support to the Stewards, who manage the macro-operations of the program. Together, they ensure that the program aligns with the parish's mission and values and that the ministry has the resources to thrive.
Stewards and Mentors: The Stewards coordinate with Mentors to ensure the youth receive the guidance and support they need. They provide resources and address any issues that arise during the gatherings.
Mentors and Hosts: Mentors work with Hosts to organize and facilitate regular gatherings. Hosts provide the necessary space and resources, while Mentors lead the activities and discussions.
Stewards and Events and Pursuits Committee: The Stewards collaborate with the Committee to plan and execute special events and service projects. They ensure that these activities align with the goals of the youth ministry and provide meaningful experiences for the youth.
Mentors and Events and Pursuits Committee: Mentors work with the Committee to integrate special events into the overall program. They help ensure that the events are engaging and beneficial for the youth.
This structure ensures that all roles work together harmoniously to create a supportive and enriching environment for the youth. Lastly, a fringe benefit of this structure is that it provides several entry points for parishioners to volunteer in youth ministry. We have over a dozen volunteers but could always use more.
