Mary Immaculate is committed to providing a safe environment for all children in our programs. We require that all volunteers comply with diocesan child protection policies prior to working with youth in any capacity. This includes attending an online Protecting God's Children class, state and/or federal background checks, and agreeing to adhere to the Code of Pastoral Conduct. Please address any questions to Lynn Carter, VIRTUS/Safe Environment Coordinator.
All diocesan safe environment policies are on the diocesan website.
To register for an online Protecting God's Children class please use the Virtus Online website found HERE. The Diocesan Code of Pastoral Conduct is also found under Documents on the left margin of this page. Volunteers who do not have contact with minors should answer YES when asked whether they have a background check on file, to opt out of the national criminal background check. The chancery will instead run a check through the National Sex Offender Registry. Employees and volunteers who have contact with minors should answer NO and continue on to authorize the full criminal background check.
“Taking a child he placed it in their midst, and putting his arms around it he said to them,“Whoever receives one child such as this in my name, receives me; and whoever receives me, receives not me but the One who sent me.” Mark 9:36-37
“Families need to know that the Church is making every effort to protect their children. They should also know that they have every right to turn to the Church with full confidence, for it is a safe and secure home.”- Pope Francis, Homily at Mass with Victims of Abuse, July 7, 2014
